Shockwave Therapy in Camberley

What is Shockwave Therapy?

Shockwave therapy is a non-invasive treatment using a handheld device that transmits high energy shockwaves (soundwaves) to the injured tissue to accelerate healing, provide pain relief, and stimulate cell regeneration. Shockwave Therapy can also aid recovery in delayed bone union, improve pain and range of movement in a frozen shoulder and can also help reduce calcifications. Long-term injuries that don’t respond to normal treatments are often considered for steroid injections or surgery, however before you reach this point, consider talking to us about your suitability for shockwave therapy.

Depending on the condition being treated results vary from 60 to 90% response rate. The benefit in comparison to other interventions is that the long-term outcomes are excellent, whereas other interventions sometimes only work for short periods. Shockwave therapy in combination with a rehabilitation program magnifies the benefits.

You can feel some discomfort with shockwave therapy, but this should be very tolerable.

Shockwave therapy can provide initial pain relief. This is then followed by a healing reaction that continues beyond your treatment sessions. Usually we recommend between 3 to 6 treatment sessions at approximately weekly intervals.

There are two variations of shockwave therapy, one is radial pressure wave therapy (not true shockwaves), and the other is high energy focused shockwave therapy. We are one of very few clinics in the area that use true shockwave therapy and our machine uses the best available technology engineered by Storz devices. They supply the majority of experts and elite sporting clubs across the world. If you are considering shockwave therapy and comparing clinics please check if they are offering focused shockwave therapy or radial pressure wave therapy. Whilst radial pressure wave therapy is effective, there are benefits and advantages to using the more powerful focused shockwave machine and some conditions can only be treated with focused shockwave therapy.

There are also cheaper less effective devices coming to the market that should also be avoided.

Shockwave therapy is largely risk free, and it has NICE guidance for a large number of indications and is used within the NHS.
